Jeff Bird, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Bird joined Sutter Hill Ventures in 2002. As a Managing Director, he focuses on investment opportunities in healthcare, including biotechnology and medical devices. Dr. Bird came to Sutter Hill after 14 years in the biotechnology industry. He was a founding member of Gilead Sciences where he worked from 1988 to 1990 and 1992 to 2000, most recently as Senior Vice President, Business Operations. He was primarily responsible for several alliances with major pharmaceutical companies and helped Gilead to acquire NeXstar. Direct sales in the U.S. and Europe were also part of his responsibilities. Dr. Bird received a degree in Biological Sciences from Stanford University in 1982, a Ph.D. in Cancer Biology in 1988 and M.D. in 1992 from Stanford Medical School.
